Our Tier 2 (Advanced) trainers are certified with the Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology and have completed at least two years of post secondary education studying exercise science. They are best suited to those with more complex training needs, including recurring injuries and/or pain conditions, athletic or performance populations, and some clinical/complex health populations.

Our Tier 3 (Specialist) trainers are certified with the Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology and have at least five years of professional fitness training experience, working with complex health and movement conditions. They are best suited to those with complex exercise needs requiring significant support, and primarily act as consultants and supervisors to Tier 1 and Tier 2 trainers as needed.

What is Open Barre Fitness?

Barre fitness is a low-impact, high-effectiveness movement practice that blends elements of ballet, Pilates, and strength training to build muscular endurance, flexibility, and balance. Using a stable surface like a ballet barre (or a sturdy chair at home) for support, barre movements focus on small, controlled exercises that engage the whole body while emphasizing core stability and postural alignment.

Inclusive and Accessible for Every Body

Barre fitness is designed to be adaptable to all fitness levels, body types, and abilities, making it an excellent choice for anyone looking for an empowering movement experience.

  • Supportive & Modifiable – Movements can be adjusted to accommodate mobility limitations, chronic pain, injuries, or varying levels of strength. Seated or standing options ensure accessibility.
  • Low-Impact & Joint-Friendly – The small, controlled motions minimize stress on the joints, making it an excellent option for those managing arthritis, hypermobility, or recovering from injury.
  • Strength Without Strain – The focus on isometric holds and light resistance means participants can build strength without needing heavy weights or high-impact movements.
  • Balance & Stability Focused – The use of a barre (or any stable surface) provides additional support for those with balance concerns, making it safe for beginners, older adults, and those with vestibular conditions.
  • Body-Affirming & Weight Neutral – Barre fitness is not about “shaping” or “toning” but rather about enhancing functional movement, fostering connection with one’s body, and celebrating movement in a way that feels good.

Why Choose Barre?

Barre is more than just a workout—it’s a mindful movement practice that promotes joyful, body-affirming exercise. Whether seated, standing, or using supportive props, every person can find a way to engage at their own pace and comfort level.
