MEET NATE

Nate (he/they) first joined the Action Potential Fitness team as a NAIT PFT practicum student in January 2023. Upon graduation in April, he joined the team full time as a CSEP Certified Personal Trainer, NASM Corrective Exercise Specialist, and Small Group Strength Training coach. Training That Moves Your Mind

Known for his innovative program designs and attention to detail, Nate is particularly passionate about creating accessible and inclusive fitness training that is respectful of all abilities and responsive to all needs. As a proudly AuDHD trainer, Nate understands firsthand the complexities that can accompany Neurodivergence, disabilities, chronic pain, and other differences that can make traditional fitness options feel inaccessible and unsustainable. Their focus is on creating opportunities that balance the inner drive to feel challenged and successful with the need for flexibility and adaptiveness.

Along with being one of APF's CSEP CPTs and Small Group Strength instructors, Nate is also deeply involved in the CFTIF. He is the program lead for Dungeons, Dragons, & Dumbbells and a regular instructor with Fitness Trans Formed. He is a frequent guest speaker and workshop provider on the relationship between Neurodiversity and Movement, and is actively involved in social justice advocacy throughout the community.

GET TO KNOW NATE

I knew that I needed to move to feel better, but the idea of starting to workout with no knowledge on the subject felt risky for my body with my chronic illness and pain. I struggled to find health professionals that would take my unique circumstances into consideration and decided that I wanted to help myself and others find ways to make fitness accessible for them. As I started to learn, I found I had a passion for educating others on how to build awareness of their bodies so they could better support themselves and have the skills to advocate more strongly for themselves with other health professionals.

I enjoy playing Dungeons & Dragons, video games, and painting miniatures!

My personal approach to fitness and exercise is evidence based programming with a focus on empowering my clients to explore their strength by lifting heavy. Even though my programming can be quite technical for those that enjoy it, I also enjoy helping clients rediscover the joy of movement by finding ways to gamify exercise and/or reconnect with moving the way we did when we were kids. It is also my belief that exercise is a fantastic way to sensory seek for Neurodivergents, so I like to explore with my clients what is a satisfying exercise style for their sensory needs.

That exercise is a personal journey and it doesn’t look the same for everyone. Everyone is starting at a different point and finds joy in different styles of movement. Building exercise consistency is about finding what is sustainable for you because the best exercise is the exercise you will do.
